Economic instruments, environmental expenditures and privatization

Some economic instruments for the use of natural resources (e.g. hunting licences) and financial sanctions for violating environmental legislation on the protection of animal and plant species, forestry and fisheries were introduced in Azerbaijan as early as the 1980s. Revenues accrued in the Reserve Fund of Nature Protection, which was established in 1989 and governed by the former State Committee on Ecology and Control of Natural Resource Use under the office of the President.
