Nuclear arms limitation and disarmament

The danger posed by nuclear weapons to the very survival of mankind and civilization has been recognized since they first came into existence, and it was emphasized by the General Assembly in the Final Document of the Tenth Special Session, its first special session devoted to disarmament, held in 1978. In paragraph 47 of that Document, the Assembly declared that it was essential to halt and reverse the nuclear arms race in all its aspects, with the ultimate goal of the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.
