United Nations disarmament studies programme

United Nations disarmament studies have been prepared since the early 1960s in order to assist the negotiating process through the analysis of specific disarmament questions related to negotiations in progress and, at the same time, to provide information which may facilitate better understanding of the problems of the arms race and approaches to disarmament. The studies are authorized by General Assembly resolutions and carried out by the Secretary-General, with the assistance of experts and consultants appointed by him. The extent of the programme reflects growing interest in such activities among Member States.
