This Supplement to the DAW/DESA Handbook for legislation on violence against women is based on the results of an expert group meeting on good practices in legislation on “harmful practices” against women, convened by the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women, now part of UN Women, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, in May 2009. The meeting reviewed and analysed experiences, approaches and good practices in legislation on “harmful practices” against women from around the world, and developed recommendations for legislation on “harmful practices” against women.
