1945

As far as rates of growth in per capita and gross products were concerned, the years 1974 and 1975 were generally unsatisfactory ones from the viewpoint of ESCAP developing countries. While 1976 may bring some relief, the situation is far below what is required or consistent with the 6.0 per cent target rate of growth in gross national product for the developing countries in the region as a whole set for the Second United Nations Development Decade. Generalizations for the region as a whole are rather pointless, but there is some use in examining the performance of two broad subgroups of countries which together comprise the bulk of the population of the developing countries of the region.
