Jihad in the age of globalization

image of Jihad in the age of globalization

At its best, globalization is envisioned as a world without borders, facilitating the exchange of ideas, goods and systems for the benefit of all. This is similar to jihad, which recognizes no borders on Allah’s Earth, and is also, as conceptualized in Islam, aimed at the betterment of the individual, societal, communal and global condition through laws and systems advocated by Islam. Modern jihad – which gained attention as a contemporary threat and global danger following 9/11 – lends itself, then, to the best and worst in globalization, using its tools and techniques to great advantage.
