Foreword

Part Two of the World Economic Survey 1966 deal,s with the salient features of the current situation of the world economy. It covers the events of 1966 and early 1967, and summarizes the principal developments in the three major groups of countries of the world-the developed market economies, the centrally planned economies and the developing countries. A broad review of world trade and production is presented in the first chapter. In the second chapter, the major developments in the industrially advanced market economies are discussed. The third chapter discusses current developments, the balance between demand and supply of consumer goods, and institutional changes in the centrally planned countries. In the fourth chapter, the economic progress recently made by the developing countries and the difficulties they are currently facing are described.
