Generally speaking, total population estimates by sex and age group for each of the 20 countries of Latin America for the period 1950-2015 were prepared in conjunction with national institutions. However, the projection period was prepared by the population estimates and projections team of the Latin American and Caribbean Demographic Centre (CELADE)-Population Division of ECLAC using the components method. The estimates and projections of the urban, rural and economically active populations were prepared by CELADE-Population Division of ECLAC following the methodology proposed in Demographic Observatory, No. 2. Listed below are the information sources considered when estimating demographic dynamics.
