Net international migration

From 1950 to 2015, the developed regions gained population due to positive net migration while the developing regions lost population as a result of negative net migration. Between 1950 and 2010, the magnitude of the net inflow of migrants to the developed regions increased steadily, reaching an average of 3.2 million per year between 2000 and 2010, up from less than 0.3 million per annum from 1950 to 1970. After 2010, however, the size of the net inflow of persons to the developed regions declined for the first time in five decades, falling to 2.3 million per year between 2010 and 2015.
