International Maritime Organization (IMO)

In 1988, several legal instruments were adopted under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)—the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation and a Protocol for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Fixed Platforms Located on the Continental Shelf. Protocols also were adopted to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS Convention) and the 1978 SOLAS Protocol and the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966.
