Millions of Africans continued to suffer in 1995 as a consequence of ethnic strife, political tensions and economic difficulties, despite intense United Nations efforts to address those often-tragic situations in a variety of ways during the year. While some progress was made in creating political frameworks for dealing with ongoing crises, the prognosis for Africa remained bleak.
