Inequality and social inclusion are two major challenges for all of Latin America and for its young people in particular. As discussed throughout the analysis presented in this volume, political participation is one of the main vehicles for the social inclusion of young people, together with education, employment, health, culture and a life free of violence. This is both because participation in political affairs is in itself a fundamental human right and because the exercise of that right is an essential pathway towards the genuine enjoyment of other human rights. The use of a rights-based approach as a cornerstone for public policies designed to guarantee such rights is therefore also linked to the creation of real opportunities for participation for all.
