Packaging materials

The general term ‘paper and board’ encompasses an enormous variety of materials which are used for everything from porous tea sachets to triple-wall corrugated-board shipping containers. The raw materials used to make paper and board include a wide range of woods, straw, cotton stalks, sugar cane waste (bagasse), and a variety of other natural fibres such as jute and kenaf. All these materials are composed of various lengths of cellulosic fibres which are bound together by lignin, a natural thermoplastic substance.
