Legal aspects of international political relations

The International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism was adopted by the General Assembly in December 1999; Assembly committees had been working on the text since 1996. Parties to the Convention, when ratified, would, among other things, take steps to identify, detect, freeze or seize any funds used or allocated for the purpose of carrying out terrorist acts. The Convention was to open for signature in January 2000.
