Energy, natural resources and cartography

The conservation and use of energy and natural resources continued to be the focus of several UN bodies in 2006, including the Commission on Sustainable Development, which commenced its second two-year implementation cycle on the theme: energy for sustainable development, industrial development, air pollution/atmosphere and climate change. The Commission considered energy for poverty eradication, energy security and efficiency and cleaner energy technologies, and reviewed progress in meeting the goals, targets and commitments of Agenda 21, the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development and the 2005 Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States.
