The handbook series promotes greater awareness among exporters and government officials in developing countries on trading opportunities available under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and a better understanding of applicable rules and regulations with a view to facilitating their effective utilization. Canada's General Preferential Tariff (GPT) – Canada's designation for the GSP scheme – was brought into effect on 1 July 1974, and has been extended several times until today. This handbook provides a general explanation of Canada’s scheme to allow officials and users responsible or involved in GSP issues to gain a better understanding of it.
