Foreword

The world food and agricultural situation has recently tended to change less rapidly than during the years of postwar recovery. It has therefore seemed filling to modify the form of the annual report on the state of food and agriculture, giving less emphasis to the current situation and short-term outlook and more to longer-term problems and to other special subjects which in the past it has not been possible to treat in detail.
