Global foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows fell by 18 per cent in 2012, down from a revised $1.65 trillion in 2011 to $1.35 trillion. The strong decline in FDI flows is in stark contrast to other macroeconomic variables, including GDP, trade and employment growth, which all remained in positive territory in 2012 (table I.1).
