The use and conservation of natural resources and energy were considered by a number of United Nations bodies in 1995, with the environmental aspects of increased exploitation receiving particular attention. The Committee on New and Renewable Sources of Energy and on Energy for Development held a special session in February and adopted a series of recommendations for sustainable energy in the rural areas of developing countries.
