This chapter explores the interlinkages between food security and the water and energy sectors from a nexus perspective. It discusses the dependency of the agriculture sector on the limited water resources in the Arab region along with the high energy requirements needed for water pumping and fertilizer production. It further reviews available technological options in the agriculture sector and focuses on how efficiency improvements can lead to increased water and energy security. It finally examines the concept of virtual water trade and investments abroad in relation to increased food security.
