Studies; information and training

The activities undertaken by the United Nations for information and training in the field of disarmament have included: expert studies on various topics; an information programme; and a fellowships, training and advisory services programme. In 1994 the Centre for Disarmament Affairs provided substantive and technical support to an expert study group; conducted various activities as part of its information programme; and administered its fellowship programme. Similarly, during the course of the year, the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), an autonomous institution which works closely with the Centre, carried out a programme of research and publications. The publications prepared by the Centre and by UNIDIR are listed in annex III. The Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters, which advises him on the various aspects of disarmament studies and on the implementation of the information programme, also serves as the Board of Trustees of UNIDIR.
