Chapters V-VIII have provided an analysis of the situation in the ESCAP region with regard to the mobilization of financial resources for development. These chapters contain a large number of suggestions for further action by governments and the international community as well as by the private sector. The key ideas behind these recommendations relating to the major areas of concern are summarized briefly below. It is, of course, obvious that, as the countries in the region vary enormously in terms of size, level of development and degree of liberalization and integration with the global economy, certain recommendations are more relevant to some than to others.
