While it is true that the countries of the region as a whole have not yet entered into any comprehensive agreement, there have been the beginnings of arrangements of various types. There is thus the example of a free trade area between Australia and New Zealand, of a sub-regional grouping in ASEAN and of commodity arrangements in the Indo-Ceylon tea agreement and the Asian Coconut Community. The Regional Co-operation for Development (Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey) and the India-United Arab Republic-Yugoslavia trade agreement are further important instances, each involving countries inside and outside the ECAFE region.
