Widespread adolescent pregnancy and childbearing, with their accompanying risks, pose a serious public health concern, and also contribute to rapid population growth in many countries. Young people additionally face high rates of sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS. This underscores the need for far greater access to youthfriendly reproductive and sexual health services. Services should be provided in a gender sensitive, youth appropriate way, as part of coordinated development efforts.
