Taking off: E-tourism opportunities for developing countries

How can Governments and tourism providers together make use of the Internet to successfully reach online consumers and improve their relative position in tourism markets? What policies and strategies should they adopt to create value by promoting online their tourism offer? What are the best practices for developing an effective destination management system (DMS)?1 This chapter attempts to respond to those questions by focusing on e-tourism policies and strategies that could help developing countries tap the opportunities offered by ICTs in this sector.
