Despite a number of serious political and security challenges during 2011, Lebanon successfully maintainined general stability and a relative degree of calm. The Office of the Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL) contributed to this by engaging with all sides in the country to assist in calming tensions and maintaining the cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel, in line with the Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).
