Urbanization reflects transformations in national economies—most notably growing numbers of people moving away from working directly with natural resources and towards industry and services. Indeed, 70 to 80 per cent of economic activity is generated in cities. Thus, urbanization is associated with increasing prosperity and enjoyment of social, economic, cultural, civil, and political rights for men and women. In this sense, urbanization is also associated with the right to an adequate standard of living.
