The socio-economic status of women

The World Economic Survey, the predecessor of the present puhlication, has assessed and analysed the socio-economic attainment of women and their contrihution to economic development on several occasions. With the approach of the Fourth World Conference on Women: Action for Equality, Development and Peace, which will take place in Beijing in Septemher 1995, the status of women and their contrihution to economic and social development are the centre of international discussion. The present chapter highlights certain major developments in the areas of education, training and lahour markets.
