The world economy: Performance and prospects

The world economy continued to perform poorly in 1993, making it the fourth consecutive year of relatively slow growth. The maintenance of high interest rates in a number of Western European countries and continuing debt deflation and currency appreciation in Japan have largely offset the moderate economic recovery in North America.
