Among the most wide-reaching achievements of the United Nations is its contribution to the development of, and respect for, international law (www.un.org/ en/law/). The Charter of the United Nations specifically calls on the Organization to encourage the progressive development of international law and its codification (Article 13) and to help in the settlement of international disputes by peaceful means, including judicial settlement (Article 33).
