World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

During 1983, membership of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) rose to 105 with the admission of Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Panama and the United Republic of Tanzania. Berne Union membership increased to 75 as a result of the accession by Barbados to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works. Mauritania deposited its instrument of accession to the Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT), thus bringing PCT Union membership to 33. At the end of the year, total membership in WIPO and its various Unions, taken together, was 123.
