International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), which completed its sixth year of operation in 1983, continued to provide concessional-term resources for agricultural development and reduction of rural poverty in its developing member States. As in previous years, the Fund’s lending policies reflected its conviction that food problems could be solved only if the rural poor were enabled to participate in the development process. In 1983, emphasis continued to be on projects which were quick-maturing and based on increased and improved use of water, fertilizers and pest control.
