Protection of human rights

In 1995, the United Nations continued to devote significant efforts to protecting the citizens of the world from basic human rights abuses and to seek redress and protection for victims. Explosive regional conflicts, often ethnic-based, and continuing political and social upheavals in many countries spurred extensive UN involvement in human tragedies involving mass exoduses, terrorism, genocide and other human rights-related areas.
