International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which was founded in 1865 as the International Telegraph Union, became a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1947. In 1995, ITU continued to promote the development and efficient operation of telecommunication facilities, to offer technical assistance in telecommunications and to encourage adoption of a broader approach to telecommunications in the global information economy and society.
