International Finance Corporation (IFC)

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) was established in 1956 as an affiliate of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank) to promote economic development in developing countries by encouraging the growth of private enterprise and efficient capital markets. During fiscal year 1995 (1 July 1994-30 June 1995), IFC continued to encourage private-sector activity in the developing world by financing private-sector projects, mobilizing capital for companies, and providing technical assistance and advisory services to private businesses and Governments. IFC also continued to strengthen its environmental monitoring of projects and increase the provision of risk management services.
