Social policy, crime prevention and human resource development

Major international conferences were organized by the United Nations in 1995 in the areas of social development and crime prevention. The World Summit for Social Development, which was held in March in Copenhagen, Denmark, adopted the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and the Programme of Action of the World Summit for Social Development, which were both endorsed by the General Assembly in December. The core issues addressed in those documents were the enhancement of social integration, poverty alleviation and expansion of productive employment.
