Gathering of world leaders. From 14 to 16 September, world leaders gathered at United Nations Headquarters in New York for a World Summit (a High-level Plenary Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly) to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Organization and to chart its future course in a changed world. Convened at the commencement of its sixtieth (2005) session, in response to General Assembly resolution 58/291 [YUN 2004, p. 1363], theWorld Summit was organized around six plenary meetings and four interactive roundtable sessions. During those three days, world leaders from over 170 countries reviewed the status of implementation of the Millennium Declaration, adopted at the 2000 Millennium Summit [YUN 2000, p. 49], aswell as the integrated follow-up to other major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic, social and related fields.
