About the 2008 edition of the Yearbook

This sixty-second volume of the Yearbook of the United Nations continues the tradition of providing the most comprehensive coverage available of the activities and concerns of the United Nations. The present volume highlights the attention given by the United Nations in 2008 to conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Georgian province of Abkhazia and the Sudan, along with the challenges posed by severe economic recession, the food security crisis, climate change and natural disasters, piracy and terrorism. It features UN accomplishments in supporting democracy in post-conflict countries, championing human rights and the rule of law, fighting for gender equality and strengthening international cooperation in countering the world drug problem.
