Achievements and challenges in advancing Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Asia and the Pacific

The Beijing+20 respondent countries of Asia and the Pacific identified achievements and challenges in implementation of the Platform for Action across an almost 20-year timeframe. Awareness and understanding of the achievements and challenges in implementation of the Platform for Action are important if gender equality is to be achieved. Gender equality is, in turn, important because it is fundamental to all persons — women, men, girls and boys — fully and freely exercising their fundamental human rights and freedoms, to their living lives with dignity, agency and voice, and for the “development” and preservation of inclusive, equitable, democratic and peaceful societies.
