Доклад о торговле и развитии 2024
Переосмысление развития в эпоху разочарований
The Trade and Development Report 2024 forecasts global growth in gross domestic product of 2.7 per cent for 2024 and 2025, marking three consecutive years below the 3 per cent pre-pandemic growth trend. Regionally, South Asia displays the most dynamic growth. The three major powers of the global economy – China, the United States of America and the European Union – are on decelerating or weakened growth trajectories. Despite the context of a turbocharged technological revolution, the much-needed acceleration in economic activity to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals remains elusive for many countries in the global South trapped by a confluence of high debt burdens, financial and resource outflows, weak investment and enforced austerity. Only 1 of the 46 least developed countries is currently meeting the promise of a 7 per cent annual growth target under the global Goals.

Review of Maritime Transport 2025
Staying the Course in Turbulent Waters
In 2025, global maritime trade continues to navigate an environment marked by volatility, rerouted flows and uncertainty. Persistent geopolitical tensions and trade policy changes have altered shipping patterns, with many routes redirected away from traditional chokepoints. Maritime transport and trade face daunting challenges. Ships that once passed through the Red Sea in days now sail for weeks around the Cape of Good Hope. Freight rates are high and volatile. Port disruption is becoming chronic. Supply chain reliability and resilience are being put to the test. Longer routes have increased delays, costs and emissions, with developing countries hit hard by the disruptions and uncertainty. Deep transitions are also reshaping the sector. Technological, environmental and geoeconomic shifts are converging at a speed that requires rethinking how maritime transport operates. Alternative fuel vessels now represent over half of the ship tonnage of new orders, yet over 90% of the active fleet still runs on conventional fuels. Automation and digitalization promise efficiency but also heighten cyber risks. Maritime transport has weathered storms before. But never have so many transitions converged so quickly. The sector will adapt. The question is whether adaptation will be managed or chaotic, inclusive or divisive, sustainable or merely survivable. The Review of Maritime Transport 2025 provides the framework needed for informed action and sound policymaking to keep trade flowing in a turbulent world.
Disability in the Arab Region 2018
This report presents and analyses statistics relating to the demographic characteristics and socio-economic situation of persons with disabilities in the Arab region. It is based on data from recent national censuses and surveys that have been harmonized and verified by ESCWA in accordance with international standards. The disability prevalence rate in the region ranges from 0.2 per cent in Qatar to 5.1 per cent in Morocco. Although countries in the region are increasingly committed to realizing the rights of persons with disabilities, progress towards that end is slow. The report shows that in terms of literacy, education and employment, persons with disabilities remain disadvantaged. Women with disabilities in rural areas are particularly marginalized.

State of Global Water Resources 2024
The 2024 edition of the State of Global Water Resources report documents an extraordinary year shaped by record heat, climate extremes, and widespread water-related impacts. With global surface temperatures reaching 1.55 °C above pre-industrial levels, 2024 was the hottest year in the 175-year observational record. Strong El Niño conditions at the start of the year amplified drought in South America and southern Africa, while other regions faced devastating floods. Across the water cycle, extremes were evident: rivers, reservoirs, lakes, groundwater, and glaciers all showed significant departures from normal. While parts of Africa, Europe, and Asia were inundated by flooding, South America and southern Africa endured severe drought. Glaciers continued record ice loss, adding to sea level rise. These events brought widespread human and economic costs, underscoring the urgent need for better monitoring, early warning, and adaptive water management in the face of a warming climate.

Arab Vision 2045
Realizing Hope Through Thought, Will and Action
The Arab Vision 2045 expresses our yearning for a bright future in which the aspirations of people in the Arab region are fulfilled, both individually and collectively. We hope that this vision will raise motivation, realize potentials, and catalyze joint action and regional cooperation. The present document is the result of concerted efforts initiated by ESCWA and the League of Arab States in light of the urgent need for a roadmap for the Arab region that combines ambition and realism, guided by implementable regional initiatives. The Arab Vision 2045 consists of six interrelated pillars: security and safety, equity and justice, innovation and creativity, prosperity and sustainable development, diversity and vitality, and cultural and civilizational renewal. These pillars were selected to take into account the Arab region’s priorities at the individual, social and country levels, and the mega-changes sweeping our world, with a view to leveraging their positive impact and mitigating their potential negative effects in the coming decades.

تقرير حالة الهجرة الدولية في المنطقة العربية 2025 لعام
العلاقة بين الهجرة والتنمية: مسارات نحو الازدهار
The migration-development nexus has witnessed increasing attention in recent years, both globally and regionally, reflecting the profound impact that population movements have on both countries of origin and of destination, both within and beyond the region. The 2024 edition of the Situation Report on International Migration in the Arab Region examines the critical nexus of migration and development in a region undergoing transformative demographic, economic, social and technological shifts. It offers an analysis of migration trends, challenges and opportunities, emphasizing the dual role of migration as both a driver and a product of development. Key insights highlight the potential of migration to contribute positively to host societies and countries of origin. Migrants bring valuable skills, knowledge and cultural diversity, while remittances support families, reduce poverty, and spur economic growth. However, achieving these outcomes requires policies that safeguard migrants’ rights and maximize their contributions to development. Regional cooperation is also essential, as the interconnected nature of Arab countries means migration policies in one country can significantly affect neighbouring nations. The present report provides a road map to harness migration’s potential, while addressing its challenges. By adopting a holistic and forward-looking approach, the Arab region can position migration as a source of strength, resilience and shared prosperity.

The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2025
The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2025 marks the tenth annual stocktaking of global progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. With the 2030 deadline only five years away, the report delivers a stark assessment: the Sustainable Development Goals have improved millions of lives, but the current pace of change is insufficient to fully achieve all the Goals by 2030. The report reveals real and substantial development gains during the past decade. Since 2015, the world has made notable strides in expanding access to education, improving maternal and child health, and bridging the digital divide. Effective prevention efforts have significantly reduced the burdens of infectious diseases such as HIV and malaria. Access to electricity has continued to grow, and renewable energy is now the fastest-rising source of power worldwide. Yet progress has been fragile and unequal. Millions still face extreme poverty, hunger, inadequate housing, and a lack of basic services. Women, people with disabilities, and marginalized communities continue to face systemic disadvantages. Escalating conflicts, climate chaos, rising inequalities, and soaring debt servicing costs are holding back further advancements. Despite these setbacks, national and local success stories showcased in the report – such as universal electricity access in 45 countries and the elimination of neglected tropical diseases in 54 countries – demonstrate that accelerated progress is not only possible but already happening. The report calls for action in six priority areas: food systems, energy access, digital transformation, education, jobs and social protection, and climate and biodiversity. It also urges increased international cooperation and sustained investment to turn the ambition of the 2030 Agenda into reality.
Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot 2025
This edition spotlights the latest evidence on gender equality. In just over a decade, the SDGs have generated significant changes for women and girls. They have spurred new laws upholding women’s rights and led to measurable increases in women’s education and well-being. Yet progress remains far short of ambition. With five years left to reach the Goals, the report outlines bold investments and actions to accelerate progress.

Disability and Development Report 2024
Accelerating the Realization of the Sustainable Development Goals by, for and with Persons with Disabilities
The UN Disability and Development Report 2024 provides an updated comprehensive analysis to address the needs of the international community to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for persons with disabilities. The publication is an update of the UN Disability and Development Report 2018, and it presents the most recent global analysis based on an unprecedented amount of data, legislation and policies from all countries to understand the socio-economic circumstances of persons with disabilities worldwide and the challenges and barriers they faced in their daily lives, including the exacerbated impacts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This analysis shows that, since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, there has been much progress, despite the setbacks posed by COVID-19. But many persons with disabilities still fall behind and continue to face barriers and discrimination. Gaps between persons with and without disabilities persist in the implementation of all the SDGs. For women with disabilities, indigenous persons with disabilities and persons with intellectual or psychosocial disabilities, the gaps are even wider. Although great strides have been made, if the observed trends since 2015 continue, the world will not achieve the SDGs for persons with disabilities by 2030. Progress needs to be accelerated. Against the backdrop of all the available evidence, the report identifies good practices and recommends urgent actions to accelerate this progress. The e-book for this publication has been converted into an accessible format for the visually impaired and people with print reading disabilities. It is fully compatible with leading screen-reader technologies such as JAWS and NVDA.
State of World Population 2025
The Real Fertility Crisis - The Pursuit of Reproductive Agency in a Changing World
In 2025, the global fertility rate is making headlines. In many countries, birth rates are declining, leading policymakers to sound the alarm over the potential for “population collapse”. In an attempt to mitigate the demographic changes, they face, some governments are employing drastic measures to persuade women to have more children. Despite this fact, millions of people around the world are unable to have the number of children they want. In every country, regardless of total fertility rate, the most consequential reproductive decision a human being can make – when, whether and with whom to have a child – is being undermined. UNFPA’s new State of World Population report argues that the real crisis we are facing is not a problem of demographic change: It is a crisis of reproductive agency.
Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction 2025
Resilience Pays: Financing and Investing for our Future
The Global Assessment Report (GAR) 2025: Resilience Pays: Financing and Investing for our Future highlights how smarter investment can reset the destructive cycle of disasters, debt, uninsurability and humanitarian need that threatens a climate-changed world. Disaster risk is increasing as more frequent and intense hazard events, unsafe urbanization and ineffective development put more people and assets in harm’s way. Disasters are having profound macroeconomic impacts, with direct losses estimated at $202 billion. When indirect and ecosystem costs are taken into account, escalating disaster costs now surpass $2.3 trillion annually. There is an urgent need to transform how disaster risk is addressed amid a rapidly changing climate. Risk is no longer a peripheral issue but a systemic challenge that affects financial stability, sustainability, and equity. By embedding risk reduction into core policy and investment decisions, it is possible to break the recurring cycle of shocks, losses and debt. With the right choices, resilience can become a foundation for long-term prosperity, enabling societies not only to withstand disasters but to thrive despite them.

A Call to Action: Developing Sustainable Capital Markets, Financing Energy Transitions, and Building Project Pipelines
This report is set out in two parts. Part one of this report discusses selected areas of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, a global policy framework to realign financial flows with sustainable development goals agreed in 2015, in Asia and Pacific. The selected areas include strengthening domestic public resources, Domestic and international private business and finance, debt and debt sustainability, and addressing systemic issues. Part two, co-authored with United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Asian Development Bank, Climate Bonds Initiative and International Renewable Energy Agency, puts forward a coherent set of policy actions that are needed to be undertaken by policymakers and regulators to strengthen sustainable capital markets, finance the energy transition, and to strengthen project pipelines for the economic transitions required for climate action.
التقرير المرحلي لعام 2024 حول تنفيذ الإدارة المتكاملة للموارد المائية في المنطقة العربية
تقييم منتصف المدة للمؤشر 6- 5- 1 من مؤشرات أهداف التنمية المستدامة
As the impacts of climate change on the Arab region intensify and socioeconomic and political challenges – including conflict – persist, efforts to secure access to safe and reliable water supplies are of primary importance. In this context, this document serves as the third progress report on Sustainable Development Goal indicator 6.5.1 on the implementation of integrated water resources management (IWRM) in the Arab region, highlighting challenges and opportunities to advance implementation. While the average IWRM implementation level for the Arab region is on par with global progress, it is marked by great disparity between the high-income countries and the least developed and conflict- and crisis-affected countries of the region. Overall, Arab countries have scored a slight increase in IWRM implementation compared to the 2020 scores, but progress is decelerating. Closing the achievement gap between high- and low-income and crisis-impacted countries in the region is crucial to IWRM implementation, as well to the achievement of the goals laid out in the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018–2028.

A BRICS Agenda for Enhancing Climate Finance
The global climate finance system is under immense strain, with current financial flows falling far short of what is needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. Developing countries face mounting challenges in accessing affordable, timely, and adequate climate finance amidst rising debt, economic volatility, and declining development assistance. In this context, BRICS leadership could offer a transformative alternative, decreasing dependence on finance and policy shifts in Annex II countries and reshaping the climate finance landscape through a coordinated, solidarity-driven agenda.
Artificial Intelligence Futures for the Arab Region
This report presents a comprehensive analysis of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a transformative global megatrend, specifically examining its far-reaching implications for the Arab region through 2040. It explores AI’s potential to revolutionize key sectors like healthcare, education, cultural preservation, and government services, driving innovation and reshaping economies across the region. The report identifies three strategic pathways for AI’s evolution in the Arab region: optimizing partnerships and technologies for local priorities, promoting cultural and linguistic identity through Arabic-language AI development, and leveraging AI to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals. Beyond opportunities such as job creation and skill transformation, the report meticulously addresses the inherent risks and challenges associated with AI, including ethical concerns, data governance, and the potential for deepening inequalities. Concluding with a series of key findings and actionable strategic recommendations, it provides essential insights for government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and civil society. It serves as a vital guide for regional leaders, equipping them with the foresight and tools to proactively engage with AI and shape its trajectory for inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development aligned with the Arab region’s unique visions and aspirations.
Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region 2023–2024
The 2023–2024 edition of the Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region examines economic developments at global and regional levels. These developments have been influenced significantly by the ongoing war in Ukraine and the continuing uncertainties in the Arab region caused by the wars on Gaza and Lebanon. The global macroeconomic outlook for 2025 is moderately positive, with the post-COVID-19 recovery expected to continue, especially in Asia. The outlook for the Arab region is highly uncertain, and is overshadowed by challenges including wars, conflicts, political instability, socioeconomic challenges and natural disasters. Poverty is projected to decline slowly in the Arab region over the coming years, from a high post-pandemic level. The pursuit of gender equality in the region continues to encounter substantial challenges. In 2024, gender disparities in the Arab region were the highest in the world, with significant disparities in labour-force participation rates between men and women.
