The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2025
The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2025 marks the tenth annual stocktaking of global progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. With the 2030 deadline only five years away, the report delivers a stark assessment: the Sustainable Development Goals have improved millions of lives, but the current pace of change is insufficient to fully achieve all the Goals by 2030. The report reveals real and substantial development gains during the past decade. Since 2015, the world has made notable strides in expanding access to education, improving maternal and child health, and bridging the digital divide. Effective prevention efforts have significantly reduced the burdens of infectious diseases such as HIV and malaria. Access to electricity has continued to grow, and renewable energy is now the fastest-rising source of power worldwide. Yet progress has been fragile and unequal. Millions still face extreme poverty, hunger, inadequate housing, and a lack of basic services. Women, people with disabilities, and marginalized communities continue to face systemic disadvantages. Escalating conflicts, climate chaos, rising inequalities, and soaring debt servicing costs are holding back further advancements. Despite these setbacks, national and local success stories showcased in the report – such as universal electricity access in 45 countries and the elimination of neglected tropical diseases in 54 countries – demonstrate that accelerated progress is not only possible but already happening. The report calls for action in six priority areas: food systems, energy access, digital transformation, education, jobs and social protection, and climate and biodiversity. It also urges increased international cooperation and sustained investment to turn the ambition of the 2030 Agenda into reality.
Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot 2025
This edition spotlights the latest evidence on gender equality. In just over a decade, the SDGs have generated significant changes for women and girls. They have spurred new laws upholding women’s rights and led to measurable increases in women’s education and well-being. Yet progress remains far short of ambition. With five years left to reach the Goals, the report outlines bold investments and actions to accelerate progress.
Shaping the Future: Report of the Secretary-General of UNCTAD to the Sixteenth Session of the Conference
Driving Economic Transformation for Equitable, Inclusive and Sustainable Development
The report outlines the vision of UNCTAD’s Secretary-General with respect to the world and how the organization must change to support Member States it their pursuit for shared prosperity. The report assess the state of trade and development in the last four years, which have been characterized by a set of economic shocks, from the Covid-19 Pandemic to the war in Ukraine. The report acknowledges that progress has been slow. The SDGs are off track, inequality remains high, and ongoing crises continue to undermine development. The report outlines four transformations that most be undertaken to propel achievement of the SDGs: 1) More diversified economies. 2) more resilient and inclusive economies, 3) More abundant and stable finance for development and 4) More multilateralism in a multipolar world. The reports concludes by outlining a series of priorities for the UNCTAD to better respond to the challenges of today and to better serve its member States.
Advancing Together: Eight Decades of Progress Towards Sustainable Development for All
As the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary in 2025, this report by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) traces the evolution of sustainable development within the UN system. It highlights the organization’s role in shaping both the understanding and the practical application of sustainable development. Despite significant achievements, multilateral collaboration faces unprecedented turbulence. Rising geopolitical tensions, persistent financing gaps, digital divides, and the COVID-19 pandemic have tested global solidarity. Yet the international community has demonstrated remarkable resilience, as evidenced by recent achievements such as the successful conclusion of the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States, the Third United Nations Ocean Conference, the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, the Third United Nations Conference on Land-Locked Developing Countries and the WHO Pandemic Agreement. Demonstrating the value of multilateral cooperation and investment in sustainable development has become increasingly important. The choice is clear: the global community must advance together through genuine solidarity and cooperation. If we retreat into fragmentation, we risk collective failure. The 80-year journey of the UN demonstrates that despite inherent complexities, multilateral action through the United Nations can yield transformative results, improve lives, and expand opportunities for all.
التقدم نحو تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة في المنطقة العربية بحلول عام 2025
The present report provides a comprehensive overview of progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Arab region in 2024, against a backdrop of prolonged instability and emerging global challenges, using 2015 as a baseline. While notable improvements have been made in areas such as health and sanitation, significant challenges persist in eradicating poverty, reducing inequality and addressing climate change. The 2022 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development called for accelerated action on the SDGs. It is therefore more urgent than ever to drive development and gather the evidence needed to measure progress, stagnation and setbacks. As Arab countries navigate complex socio-economic landscapes, the report serves as a vital resource for Governments, stakeholders, and development partners committed to achieving sustainable development and ensuring that no one is left behind.
