Scope of the research
Although the study presents an overview of the different experiences of children on the move in Ethiopia, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugee children and international migrants, the emphasis of the study is particularly on the internal displacement of children within Ethiopia – and within three cities in particular: Adama, Addis Ababa and Debre Birhan.
Welcome session and keynote address
To set the stage of the overall discussion, during the keynote address the IOM Director General emphasized the significance of the IDM, underscoring the importance of facilitating pathways for regular migration.
Cross-sector challenges and responses
The survey responses related to cross-sector challenges predominantly centred around the availability and distribution of resources, infrastructure maintenance, and the threats environmental conditions pose to health, human security, and food security.
Goal and expected outcomes
The International Dialogue on Migration Spring session that took place at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 21 and 22 May 2023 brought States and diverse partners together to explore how to create more and better opportunities for people to move in a regular and beneficial way as part of a comprehensive approach to human mobility.
