Africa experienced strong GDP growth from 2000 to 2019, despite declines in commodity prices – including some severe drops in crude oil prices during this period. which particularly affected major oil-exporting countries such as Nigeria. The continent’s average growth rate in this period was around 5 percent but with considerable heterogeneity in growth patterns between countries. This came at a time when other global regions were experiencing a decline or stagnation in their economic activity.
