Women

Aiming to accelerate a process begun two decades earlier to advance the status of women worldwide, the United Nations in September 1995 convened the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing (4-15 September). The two-week global convocation culminated with the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a comprehensive, ground-breaking plan designed to speed implementation of the 1985 Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women and to promote the goals of equality, development and peace.
