Latin America and the Caribbean is at an advanced stage of demographic transition, characterized by increasingly lower fertility rates and significant changes in reproductive patterns. Since the mid-twentieth century, the total fertility rate has fallen steadily across nearly all countries and territories of the region, to an average of 1.8 children per woman in Latin America and 1.5 children per woman in the Caribbean in 2024.
