Eco-labelling is sometimes also called environmental labelling. By choosing a product with an eco-label, the consumer makes a deliberate and informed choice to purchase a product or a service that causes less damage to the environment than another similar product or service. It does not mean that the product has no negative influence on the environment, but it does mean that it is appreciably better than ‘just another’ product or service. Eco-labelling is therefore different from setting minimum product standards or requirements.
