Global Humanitarian Overview 2021
In 2021 235 million people will need humanitarian assistance and protection. This number has risen to 1 in 33 people worldwide - a significant increase from 1 in 45 at the launch of the Global Humanitarian Overview 2020 which was already the highest figure in decades. The UN and partner organizations aim to assist 160 million people most in need across 56 countries and will require a total of $35 billion to do so. 2020 has been a year like no other. Adaptation Gap Report 2022
Too Little, Too Slow - Climate Adaptation Failure Puts World at Risk
Climate change is landing blow after blow upon humanity as we saw time and again throughout 2022: most viscerally in the catastrophic floods that put much of Pakistan under water. These are the kinds of climate impacts we are suffering at only 1.1°C above pre-industrial temperatures. We are heading for much higher temperatures: 2.8°C by the end of the century based on current policies. The international community must urgently reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a transformation of energy industry transport food systems financial systems and so much more. However as the 2022 edition of UNEP’s Adaptation Gap Report: Too Little Too Slow finds we must also urgently increase efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change that are already here and to those that are to come. The report finds that global efforts in adaptation planning financing and implementation are increasing incrementally. However they are not keeping pace with increasing climate risks. Yes over 80 per cent of countries have at least one national adaptation planning instrument in place. But funding to turn planning into action isn’t following.
Adaptation Gap Report 2021
The Gathering Storm - Adapting to Climate Change in a Post-pandemic World
The report finds that there is an urgent need to step up climate adaptation finance. Estimated adaptation costs in developing countries are five to ten times greater than current public adaptation finance flows and the adaptation finance gap is widening. COVID-19 recovery stimulus packages are also becoming a lost opportunity to finance climate adaptation. Less than one third of 66 countries studied explicitly funded COVID-19 measures to address climate risks up to June 2021. Meanwhile the heightened cost of servicing debt combined with decreased government revenues may hamper future government spending on adaptation. On the positive side climate change adaptation is increasingly being embedded in policy and planning. Around 79 per cent of countries have adopted at least one national-level adaptation planning instrument – an increase of 7 per cent since 2020. Implementation of adaptation actions is also continuing to grow slowly with the top ten donors funding more than 2600 projects with a principal focus on adaptation between 2010 and 2019. Overall though the report finds that further ambition is needed to progress in national-level adaptation planning finance and implementation worldwide.

Adaptation Gap Report 2020
The UNEP Adaptation Gap Report 2020 finds that while nations have advanced in planning huge gaps remain in finance for developing countries and bringing adaptation projects to the stage where they bring real protection against climate impacts such as droughts floods and sea-level rise. Public and private finance for adaptation must be stepped up urgently along with faster implementation. Nature-based solutions – locally appropriate actions that address societal challenges such as climate change and provide human well-being and biodiversity benefits by protecting sustainably managing and restoring natural or modified ecosystems – must also become a priority.

Deuxième évaluation mondiale de l’océan
Évaluation mondiale de l’océan II: Volume I & II

UNESCO Science Report 2015
Towards 2030
The UNESCO Science Report: Towards 2030 was released in November 2015. Spanning the period between 2009 and 2015 it provides more country-level information than ever before on trends and developments in scientific research and governance with data on 189 countries and profiles of 140 of them. More than 50 experts have contributed to the present report each of them covering the region or country from which they hail. A quinquennial report has the advantage of being able to focus on longer-term trends rather than becoming entrenched in descriptions of short-term annual fluctuations which with respect to policy and science and technology indicators rarely add much value.
