توصيات من أجل العمل المتعدد الأطراف
Technological advances have revolutionized communications, connecting people on a previously unthinkable scale. They have supported communities in times of crisis, elevated marginalized voices and helped mobilize global movements for racial justice and gender equality. Yet these same advances have enabled the spread of misinformation, disinformation and hate speech at an unprecedented volume, velocity and virality, risking the integrity of the information ecosystem. New and escalating risks stemming from leaps in AI technologies have made strengthening information integrity one of the urgent tasks of our time. This clear and present global threat demands coordinated international action. The United Nations Global Principles for Information Integrity show us another future is possible.
United in Science 2024
A Multi-organization High-level Compilation of the Latest Weather, Climate, Water and Related Environmental and Social Sciences for the Future
The science is clear – greenhouse gas emissions are rising, global temperatures are shattering records, and extreme weather is wreaking havoc with our lives and our economies. Urgent and ambitious action is needed to support sustainable development, climate action and disaster risk reduction. The decisions we make today could mean the difference between a future of breakdown or a breakthrough to a better world for people and the planet. United in Science 2024 emphasizes the transformative impact of new technologies and innovative approaches across weather, climate, water and related environmental and social sciences. From artificial intelligence (AI) to cutting‑edge satellite technologies and virtual realities that bridge the physical and digital worlds, scientific and technological advances are enhancing weather, climate, water and related environmental applications as well as informing strategies for responding to global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development. The report also underscores the necessity of transdisciplinary approaches that help apply science and technology in local contexts and boost their impact by embracing diverse knowledge, perspectives and experiences to co-develop and implement solutions. While significant gaps and challenges remain, enhanced collaboration across scales is essential to harness the full potential of weather, climate, water and related environmental and social sciences to ensure that their benefits are accessible to all.

Gender Alert: Gaza - A War on Women’s Health
Since 7 October 2023, large-scale Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, including aerial bombing and ground offensives, have killed more than 41,000 people. Women and children account for over half of all fatalities. Some 95,000 people have been injured, and approximately 75 per cent of the population has been displaced. Most people reside in overcrowded shelters with limited access to food, water and sanitation. The war has caused a catastrophic public health crisis, leading to a spike in preventable deaths, the rapid spread of diseases, and high rates of physical and mental illnesses. After more than 11 months of war, an estimated 177,000 women face life-threatening health risks, including from non-communicable diseases and hunger and poor nutrition during pregnancy. Close to 84 per cent of health facilities has been damaged or destroyed. Those that remain lack medicine, ambulances, electricity, water and the ability to provide even basic life-saving treatments. At least 491 health-care workers have been killed: 345 men and 146 women. To better understand the gender dynamics of the health crisis, between March and April 2024, UN Women surveyed 600 people, 305 women and 295 men, across Gaza’s five governorates, asking about their health and well-being. Twelve key informant interviews provided additional perspectives. This gender alert on the war in Gaza is the fifth in a series by UN Women. It explores how the conflict has affected women’s physical and mental health and is intended to support evidence-based advocacy and services.

Social Panorama of Latin America and the Caribbean 2024
The Challenges of Non-contributory Social Protection in Advancing Towards Inclusive Social Development
This edition of the Social Panorama of Latin America and the Caribbean, 2024 addresses the challenges of non-contributory social protection to advance towards inclusive social development in the region. Addressing the development crisis, the gaps in inclusive social development and the reconfiguring risk structure requires progress towards universal, comprehensive, sustainable and resilient social protection systems. Non-contributory social protection policies are essential in achieving the objectives and functions of social protection systems: income protection, access to social services and labour inclusion. One in three households in the lowest income quintile lacks access to social protection and programme amounts are often insufficient to overcome poverty. The region faces persistent gender inequality and a care crisis that will be exacerbated by accelerated ageing. Progress in poverty eradication requires comprehensive policies, as well as progress in establishing a standard of social investment in non-contributory social protection.
