World Public Sector Report 2010
Reconstructing Public Administration after Conflict: Challenges, Practices and Lessons Learned
The main objective of the 2010 World Public Sector Report is to analyze challenges, strategies and practices in rebuilding public administration after conflict. It is unique in that it provides key lessons learned about transforming governments to promote peaceful coexistence, sustainable development and prosperity for all citizens. The report is based on a literature review of the main theories and issues involved in post-conflict reconstruction, coupled with an analysis of relevant case studies and good practices from all five regions of the world, dating from the end of World War II to the present. This publication examines four main key areas of public administration reconstruction: institution-building, leadership, human resources in the public sector, citizen engagement and public service delivery. The report is intended for decision makers in conflict or conflict-prone situations and a range of different actors.
World Public Sector Report 2001
Globalization and the State
It is increasingly being acknowledged that the State is a key actor in the development process. It has a major role to play in making globalization work for all; in alleviating poverty and income inequality; in advancing human rights and democracy; in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development; and in managing violent conflict and combating international crime. This new report will be published every two years and intends to review major trends and issues concerning public administration and governance. It will analyze the challenges faced by governments in reforming particular areas of their public sector, and highlight best practices in public administration and/or national reforms, which may serve as a useful reference to other countries modernizing their public administration systems. This publication will provide policy makers, scholars, and the civil society with relevant information, data and research findings on issues related to the public sector.

Uganda Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Review
The Uganda Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Review supports Ugandan development aspirations which require that its national science, technology and innovation (STI) plans and programmes make an effective contribution to its social and economic development. Strengthening national innovation performance is required to improve the competitiveness of Ugandan firms and industries competing in the global economy. Furthermore, like all other countries, Uganda is facing the challenges of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Here, as well, technology and innovation are increasingly important factors of success.
The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2021
The annual Sustainable Development Goals Report provides an overview of the world’s implementation efforts to date, highlighting areas of progress and areas where more action needs to be taken to ensure no one is left behind. While advances have been made in some areas, monumental challenges remain. The evidence and data spotlight areas that require urgent attention and more rapid progress to realize the 2030 Agenda’s far-reaching vision. This sixth edition of the report also looks at the impact of COVID-19 in reaching the Goals.
The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2022 presents how far we have come towards reaching the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This seventh edition of the annual report also looks at the trends since 2015 and impact of COVID-19 on the progress. It uses the latest available data and inputs from custodian agencies of the United Nations system other international agencies and is prepared by the Statistics Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2024
The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2024 presents how far we have come towards reaching the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The report warns that with just six years remaining to the 2030 deadline, and nearly a year from reaffirmed commitments at the SDG Summit, current progress falls far short of what is required to meet the targets outlined in the 2030 Agenda. The scarring effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, escalating conflicts, geopolitical tensions, and growing climate chaos are hitting SDG progress hard. The report reveals that only 17 per cent of the SDG targets are on track, with nearly half showing minimal or moderate progress, and over one-third stalling or regressing. The report documents increasing global inequalities, with an additional 23 million people pushed into extreme poverty and over 100 million more suffering from hunger in 2022 compared to 2019. For the first time this century, per-capita GDP growth in half of the world’s most vulnerable nations is slower than that in advanced economies. Overall global health progress has decelerated alarmingly since 2015. Many countries have experienced declines in student math and reading skills. Wars are upending millions of lives. The number of forcibly displaced people has reached an unprecedented level, nearly 120 million by May 2024 and civilian casualties spiked by 72 per cent between 2022 and 2023. Environmental crises are threatening the foundations of planetary ecosystems. 2023 was the warmest year on record, with global temperatures nearing the critical 1.5°C threshold. Greenhouse gas emissions and atmospheric CO2 concentrations continue to reach new highs.

World Public Sector Report 2003
E-Government at the Crossroads
The World Public Sector Report 2003 provides an analysis of the status of e-government in the world today. It adopts the UN Millennium Declaration as its analytical framework and presents global ranking of Member States as to their e-government readiness. The main message of the Report is that development and the existence of e-government applications do not necessarily reflect the quality of life in a country. However, treating e-government as a tool that facilitates creation of public value by public administration can positively impact human development.

World Public Sector Report 2005
Unlocking the Human Potential for Public Sector Performance
The conditions of globalization, including economic integration, fiscal discipline, introduction of information communications technologies and democratic governance, have increasingly forced states to redefine their role in public management and to reform the public administration system. However, there is growing realization amongst decision makers that policy and institutional reform per se will not be sufficient to revitalize the public sector. Major strengthening of the knowledge, skills, values, attitudes and leadership abilities of human capital is also needed to transform the public sector, particularly in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This year’s Report is expected to contribute to global and national debates on this important topic.

Core Indicators for Sustainability and SDG Impact Reporting – Training Manual
Member States of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, containing 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets. SDG 12 Sustainable Consumption and Production in its Target 12.6 explicitly encourages companies to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycles. Indicator 12.6.1 requires data on the number of companies publishing sustainability reports. Since 2015 UNCTAD has been working to enable further advancements on SDG sustainability reporting by companies. Specifically, focusing efforts to support governments in measuring the contribution of the private sector to the implementation of the SDGs. UNCTAD developed its Guidance on core indicators for entity reporting on contribution towards implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (GCI). This Training Manual has been updated based on the changes included in the second edition of the Guidance on Core Indicators for Sustainability and SDG Impact Reporting. The core SDG indicators cover the economic, environmental, social and institutional areas. They were identified based on key reporting principles, main reporting frameworks and companies reporting practices.
