Introduction
The Electricity Profiles 2022 provides detailed information on production, trade and consumption of electricity, on net installed capacity and thermal power plant inputs and efficiency for 226 countries and areas on an internationally comparable basis, for the years 2017-2022. It is published by the United Nations Statistics Division with the aim of providing an overall picture of the electricity sector of such countries and areas.
Introduction
The Energy Statistics Yearbook 2022 is a comprehensive collection of international energy statistics prepared by the United Nations Statistics Division. It is the sixty-sixth in a series of annual compilations which commenced under the title World Energy Supplies in Selected Years, 1929-1950. It updates the statistical series shown in the previous issue.
Introduction
The Energy Balances 2022 presents energy data for countries and areas in a format which shows the overall picture of the production, trade, transformation and consumption of energy products utilized in the region, published by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD). Such a format is useful in assessing and analysing supply and consumption patterns across both products and countries in detail on an internationally comparable basis.
Energy product definitions
This section provides definitions of energy products utilized in the publication. These definitions correspond to SIEC. Some tables may include names or concepts not included in these product definitions. See the specific table’s notes for how its product definitions relate to SIEC definitions.
Concepts and definitions
The electricity profiles intend to provide an overall picture of the electricity sector in countries and areas on a comparable basis. As such, a simplified approach is taken, where for production and capacity the three main electricity sources (or production processes) are singled out; namely, combustible fuels, hydro and nuclear; while the remaining electricity production processes (mostly renewable) are aggregated in the category Other. Detailed information on each source for the same countries and areas is available from the United Nations Energy Statistics Database.
